Expanding in line with Armenia’s industrial pace, in 1980-1985, it became the largest higher education institution and one of the leading engineering schools of the Soviet Union represented by its 25000 students and more than 65 specialties. On November 29, 1991 Yerevan polytechnic institute has been reorganized, taking the name State engineering university of Armenia (SEUA). By the decree of the government of Armenia of 2005, the university had taken back its traditional name “Polytechnic”. On November 13, 2014 the State engineering university of Armenia was renamed to National polytechnic university of Armenia.
